"Brunello di Montalcino er basisversionen fra Piccolomini og kom til efter man i 2003 indkøbte nye marker, og den fremstår som et udsøgt og værdigt udtryk for ”den lille brune”, som Brunello betyder. Den fremstilles af druer fra ca. 25 år gamle planter og er tidligere drikkeklar end de øvrige og fremtræder raffineret, kompleks og generøs på en næsten luksuriøs, men afdæmpet måde. Skøn tekstur og stor harmoni opleves i munden og vinen demonstrerer en både smidig og spændstig frugt, og så denne ”varme”, der på forunderlig vis karakteriserer de bedste vine fra Montalcino. Allerede på dette niveau opleves magien og vinen er oplagt til servering i store Bourgogne-glas."

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino (with 56,000 bottles made) shows bold cherry, spice, crushed stone and balsam herb that come together in seamless fashion. There are depths of velvety textures in the mouth, offset by a tactile mix of tart wild berries, minerals and zesty acidity which adds vibrancy in spite of the tannic heft and primary intensity found here.
