Smagt blindt kunne man godt komme til at pege på Premier Cru Côte de Beaune. Men vi er i Russian River Valley på Hansels sydligste og højest beliggende vinmark. Stephen Hansel holder sig alene til en Pinot Noir klon her – nemlig Dijon 777, der giver vinen lidt flere noter af jord. Som med Hansels andre Pinot-vine blev klaserne afstilket inden presning. Efter endt gæring blev juicen modnet i franske egefade, hvoraf godt halvdelen var nye.

Første indtryk er en flot, dyb rubinrød farve. Herefter melder duften ind … mørke bær, hindbær, basilikum, roser, fugtig jord, skovbund, krydderier, læder, røg og tobak. Smagen tager dig endnu længere og får dig til at tænke mørke kirsebær, vilde blåbær, jordbær, blomme, cola og vilde blomster … det hele holdt perfekt sammen af silkebløde taniner. Det spiller … ikke mindst til prisen.

The 2022 Pinot Noir The South Slope Vineyard is made entirely from the Dijon clone 777 and pours a deep magenta hue. In the glass, it gives off a more floral perfume, with notes of violets, black raspberry coulis, sweet cedar, and mossy forest floor, and brighter fresh red fruit comes through on the palate. Medium-bodied, it reveals more focus on the palate, with a mouthwatering feel, and it has fine tannins and a light, salty finish. A very lovely wine, it’s going to reach its tenth birthday with ease if stored properly. 405 cases were produced.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Cuvée Alyce shows the riper side of the year in its flavor profile, textural breadth and overall feel. Succulent dark cherry, plum, lavender, menthol and cloves fill out the layers, while polished tannins wrap it all together in style. For the first time, the blend includes some 943 Clone to complement the traditional mix of 777, 115 and 114 used in this bottling.
